Dentures and partial dentures
Dentures are removable appliances. They can replace some or total missing teeth. If you have lost all of your natural teeth, then you need a complete denture.
Partial denture is used to replace some missing teeth.
There are different kind of dentures.
A full denture is made by a dentist when all of the teeth for the arch are lost. An Implant supported denture is used when there
is not enough retention from the patient's ridge bone for the support and stability.
Partial dentures replace some lost or missing teeth. Partial dentures can be fixed (Bridge) or removed.
Overdenture can be used when some teeth can be saved to be used as anchorages for the denture.
These anchorage teeth would save the jaw bone from resorption and help the denture's stability and retention.
Immediate dentures can be made before the teeth extractions and can be inserted on the same day of the teeth removal.
The dentist can make more natural looking overdenture( close to your own teeth shape, and color) due to the fact that impressions for immediate
denture is made out of your own individual teeth before the teeth extraction. Inserting immediate dentures right after the teeth removal, provide some
chewing ability and cosmetic right away. That means your edentulous area will not be visible by others after the teeth extractions. Immediate denture
usually needs a couple of reline between 3 to 6 months after the initial insertion.
Implant retained Overdenture. Implants can also be used as anchorage overdenture when
non of the teeth can be saved to be used as one. Implants also can help with the bone preservation. Implants help the denture retention and stability too.
It is highly recommended that you do not wear your denture during nights. Not wearing your dentures at night help your oral health by rebounding the oral tissue.
Dentures should be taking out every night, cleaned and kept in a cup of clean tap water every night. Dentures should be brushed and cleaned like natural teeth.
Brush and rinse your denture at night after taking them out of your mouth and in the morning again before wear them. Dentures could be brittle and can break easily.
Be carful during the cleaning and avoid dropping them.
